Theft from Bartlett Regional Hospital
January 08, 2016

The Juneau Police Department would like to offer encouragement and support to anyone wanting to get healthier in 2016, including losing weight if that is a goal. However, JPD objects to the selfishness of one man who, at about 10 in the morning on December 15th, 2015, stole an expensive scale from Bartlett Regional Hospital. The scale was being used at Weight Watchers meetings held at BRH. Even if the man is committed to his own 2016 resolution he has literally robbed a group of people of the ability to weigh in at a meeting.

The scale is a Tanita BWB-800AS Digital Physician Scale worth $550. Surveillance video did capture a picture of the man. He was wearing blue jeans, a hooded sweatshirt, had a red jacket, and was wearing a hat with a marijuana reference, the initials on it. The baseball hat was black with yellow letters.

The robbers were dressed similarly with covered faces and the robbery happened at about the same time of day. The September robbery happened at 8:30 in the evening and the December 1, 2015, robbery happened at about 8:00 in the evening. In both robberies the suspect is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt that seems to be stuffed with material to conceal body shape. During the recent robbery the suspect bends over and reveals the bottom of a red shirt he is wearing under the sweatshirt. The suspect appears to be about 6 feet tall and 250 pounds.

The recent robbery was more violent than the September robbery, with a female customer being threatened with something that looked like a wrapped up gun and a male customer was punched in the face. The suspect went behind the desk and appeared to hit the male clerk multiple times and then took the money out of the till himself. The clerk had a shallow laceration on his head from being hit.

The suspect fled the same direction as the suspect in the September robbery, going on foot from the hotel to Lee Smith Drive then traveling toward O`Day Drive.
